Our current Topic is Alchemy Island!

We’re going on a magical journey to find the gold hidden somewhere on Alchemy Island…

We will read fantasy stories and create our own based on a portals we photographed. Our
geography skills will improve as we look closely at maps of Alchemy Island, plotting routes and using coordinates. We’ll
examine samples in science and create our own music too!

We will also be studying:

English – The Firework Makers Daughter.

What Lila wants to be more than anything else in the world is . . . a Firework-Maker!

But firework-making is not just about being able to make Crackle-Dragons and Golden Sneezes. There is also one special secret: every Firework-Maker must make a perilous journey to face the terrifying Fire-Fiend!

Not knowing that she needs special protection to survive the Fire-Fiend’s flames, Lila sets off alone. Her friends, Chulak and Hamlet – the King’s white elephant – race after her. But can they possibly reach her in time?

Maths – We follow Singapore Maths where children work in partners and learn together!

We will be looking at place value, addition and subtraction, translation, multiplication and division, word problems and fractions.

Science – Life Cycles!

We will be looking at different animals life cycles!  We will be looking at the work of Jane Goodall with chimpanzees as well as looking at different classifications of animals!

French – Greetings, numbers and colours.

Music – rhythm and composition.

ICT –   Coding simple programs and debugging.

PE – Swimming and athletics.

Geography – Contours

Art and DT – Designing our own mini beast hotel!

We are always on the lookout for cardboard boxes and tubs/tins.  If you have any of these please feel free to bring them into 5B and we will find use for them in our D&T lessons!
