Our current Topic is Beast Creator!

This half term, 5B are exploring the world of mini beasts!

We have been on a visit to the Community Garden, where we went on a hunt to look for different mini beasts.

We then made out our bug hotels in groups, in the hope of making a restful place for minibeasts to relax and be safe from predators.  We have placed our bug hotels over in the Community Garden for everybody to see, and more importantly to give them a safe place to hide.

At the end of our topic we will create our own super minibeast in a challenge that will test our wits and intellect!!

We will also be studying:

English – The Wolves in the Walls!

Lucy is sure there are wolves living in the walls of their house—and, as everybody says, if the wolves come out of the walls, it’s all over. Her family doesn’t believe her. Then one day, the wolves come out. But it’s not all over. Instead, Lucy’s battle with the wolves is only just beginning….

Maths – We follow Singapore Maths where children work in partners and learn together!

We will be looking at place value, addition and subtraction, translation, multiplication and division, word problems and fractions.

Science – Life Cycles!

We will be looking at different animals life cycles!  We will be looking at the work of Jane Goodall with chimpanzees as well as looking at different classifications of animals!

French – Greetings, numbers and colours.

Music – rhythm and composition.

ICT –   Coding simple programs and debugging.

PE – Swimming and athletics.

Geography – Contours

Art and DT – Designing our own mini beast hotel!

We are always on the lookout for cardboard boxes and tubs/tins.  If you have any of these please feel free to bring them into 5B and we will find use for them in our D&T lessons!
