Our topic this term is ‘Are eggs alive?’

During this topic, the children will be learning about different animals and insects, including:

Butterfly’s

Frogs

Chicks

We will be looking at the language used in the stories related to the animals and insects, repeating key phrases from the story. We will be retelling the story, acting out different roles.

For the butterfly part of the topic we will have caterpillars in class for children to see the change from caterpillar to chysalis to butterfly. We will be looking at the life cycle of a butterfly.

We will go pond dipping to search for tadpoles. We will then look at the life cycle of a frog.

We will have living eggs in class for change to see the eggs hatch to chicks. We will keep the chicks in class for the topic. Children will learn the life cycle.

To finish the topic we will be asking parents to come and look at the children’s work for the half term.

 

Physical Development – Children will continue developing gross and fine motor skills.
Communication and Language – Children will be developing language through learning about the topic by talking about the different books and role playing different scenarios.

Mathematics- Counting, sequencing, comparative language, simple charts, solving number problems, addition, subtraction, doubling, halving and capacity. 2d an 3d shapes.

Creative- Role-play, creative activities related to the theme and singing lots of new rhymes and songs.

Understanding the World-  Talking about the world and how it changes.

Information for Parents – Helping your Children at Home

Practicing reading and writing set 1 sounds, high frequency words and ‘tricky words’ will help your child. Please encourage children to explore books. They love ‘Bedtime stories’.  We now have a new reading scheme ‘Bug Club’. Parents are asked to read with their child and to sign and date reading diaries. Reading books will be change weekly and Library books are changed each Friday so please ensure that you child’s books are in school everyday or their books cannot be changed.

Information to Parents:
Please ensure girls wear small studs instead of hooped earrings. Trainers should not be worn. Please ensure that PE kits are brought in for PE days. Please try and ensure your child has an opportunity to read with you at least three times a week!

‘Hook a Book’ Parent and child reading session are every Friday 8:50- 9:05 . (this will start after October Half term)
