Sport Premium

The primary aim is to raise the profile and improve the provision of PE and sport in school and to ensure healthy and active lifestyles. The Government are supporting and encouraging schools to provide professional development opportunities for their staff, provide cover/release time for teachers for professional development in PE/Sport, to hire specialist PE teachers/qualified sports coaches to work alongside teachers teaching PE, provide places for pupils on after-school sport clubs and holiday clubs, to run sporting competitions or increasing participation in school games, to increase the amount of swimming sessions in KS2, and to buy in quality assured professional development for schools.

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Sport Premium Funding for this year

This coming year the school will be participating in a range of sporting activities. The aim of these activities is to promote healthy lifestyles and physical wellbeing in all pupils, encourage a lifelong love of sports and to challenge and stimulate learning for both pupils and staff within our school. The programme incorporates rigorous professional development for our staff in order that we can continue to deliver high quality, sustainable, sporting activities in future years. This will be achieved through the sport premium funding and any additional funding made available by the school for PE.

This academic year we will:

  • Continue to complete the new curriculum for PE to ensure key skills are covered in each year group
  • Continue to promote after-school clubs and provide a range of long life physical activities and healthy programmes
  • Develop the role of sports leaders in KS1 and 2
  • Audit children regarding health awareness
  • Audit staff regarding confidence in delivery of PE
  • Ensure key members of staff share good practice with others
  • Continue to hire PE specialists/sports coaches to provide CPD sessions
  • Continue to hire PE specialists/sports coaches to work alongside staff in order to develop their own expertise in this subject to enhance provision in gymnastics and dance
  • Continue to provide KS2 weekly swimming sessions to take place over at least 2 terms
  • Junior Sports Leaders to organise and lead activities for KS1 and KS2 pupils under supervision of lunchtime supervisors
  • Improve parental involvement in healthy and active lifestyles
  • Implement a vigorous and appropriate assessment procedure for PE
  • Review resources and purchase new equipment
  • Pupils to be entered into inter-school competitions for: Netball, Football, Kwik Cricket, Tag Rugby, Indoor/Outdoor Athletics
  • Develop an effective partnership with neighbouring primary schools to gain a cluster of schools that can share CPD sessions and compete in school competitions or sporting events/festivals
  • Continue with our effective partnership with a neighbouring sports specialist secondary school.

Sport Premium Funding for previous year

The School Sport Premium funding has made a huge impact for our pupils at Caldmore as it has helped to enhance opportunities for pupils to take part in a range of physical activities. The amount of pupils taking part in after school clubs has increased due to the range of clubs being made available. One successful programme that has increased pupils participation levels is ‘Change for Life’. Teaching staff have been given the opportunity to attend training courses that have helped them improve their teaching skills and build on their confidence in order to lead sessions such as the ‘Change for Life’ programme. Continuing professional development (CPD) meetings and courses have been a key factor for teachers who have developed on their own professional expertise in PE. Furthermore, specialist sports coaches working alongside our teachers to develop their expertise in areas such as Dance has also been a significant factor.

The sports provision at Caldmore Village Primary School is already considerable. Pupils are able to take part in a range of activities which include:

  • professional PE specialists and sports coaching within games lessons,
  • swimming lessons made available over two terms at KS2,
  • Adventurous outdoor pursuit residential activities
  • a range of after extra-curricular activities including badminton, dance, netball, basketball, football, cricket, athletics, tag rugby, wake up shake up, Change for Life and multi-sports.

Pupils have also been given the opportunity to be playground leaders through school workshops in order to increase playtime and lunch time physical activity participation across the school. This encourages our pupils to take part in physical activities throughout the school day.
