Chair of Governors
Community Governor
Term of Office: 1st February 2017 to 31st January 2021

I have worked in education in the West Midlands area for over thirty years, enjoying roles ranging from classroom teacher to Senior Leader. Most recently, I held the position of Regional Lead Practitioner for Science, Data and Assessment for the Academy Transformation Trust. Having been Executive Chair of the Local Academy Committee since September 2018, I am fully committed to working with each academy to ensure that the children of Caldmore and North Walsall are given the best possible foundations for a bright and prosperous future, through the provision of high-quality learning experiences in caring and richly diverse communities. Whilst taking a keen interest in all aspects of academy life, I have a link governor responsibility for safeguarding.

As an avid football fan, I enjoy attending matches with my two sons and have previously coached schoolboy district football teams. My wife and I are enthusiastic ramblers, who get great pleasure from roaming through the some of the wonderful landscapes, both across our region and further afield. I also enjoy music and have regularly played guitar in school productions, for local theatre groups and in several original bands.

I take immense pride in being associated with the tremendous work being carried out at both of our academies and will strive to lead the Local Academy Committee in its aim of providing staff, children and members of the local community with the challenge, support and recognition they deserve.

To contact Mr Bickley, please or write to him care of the academy.

I have worked in a local secondary academy for the last fifteen years and am now having a career break. I worked in Sixth Form and previously as an Examinations Officer so have experienced both administrative and pastoral roles and am highly aware of the need for commitment to both of these areas to ensure pupil success. I always enjoyed encouraging students to reach for the stars but also to be honest, kind and respectful of others. I am enthused by the ethos and enthusiasm, which is clearly felt within Caldmore Primary Academy, and the positive effect this has on the pupils there.

I enjoy spending time with my family, am a passionate football fan and enjoy live music.

I intend to serve the children, parents and staff at Calmore Primary Academy to ensure the fantastic progress and success continues to grow and develop.

I was born and raised in Slovakia, but I came to the UK in 2008 after spending several years in Germany. My working life has been divided between the worlds of business and education.  My current role at CPA is as a Learning Support Practitioner, in which role I have a special focus on children from Eastern Europe. The work I do fulfils several of my interests: teaching and learning languages, exploring diverse cultures and values, and getting to know the country that has become my home. I am currently working towards a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language.

Many of the children and families I meet have arrived relatively recently in the UK, and want to make it their new home. However, it takes time to fit into a new culture and build the social networks that we all need to live a fulfilling life. For the children, Caldmore is their point of entry to a new world. These children have hopes, aspirations and talents. My obligation is to support them and their families to access the services and opportunities that they need to fulfil their hopes and aspirations, and to develop their talents. In this way, they will feel motivated to take their share of responsibility for our community in future. At the same time, it is my duty to communicate the needs of the children (and their families) to the leaders of the school in order to make learning an enjoyable and successful experience. This is more than my job; it is my mission.

Being a school governor is a huge responsibility. Every decision can have a massive impact on children, their parents, school staff and consequently on a school’s and community’s reputation

I joined the governing body of Caldmore Primary Academy in spring of 2018. I have been a secondary school teacher of History and a middle manager for most of my career and have worked in a variety of different types of schools. I have a deep understanding of the challenges that both schools and their students face in the 21st century. I feel passionately that all students should have high aspirations for their futures, regardless of their background, and should be given the tools to fulfill them. I have considerable experience in teaching SEN, LAC, PP and Gifted and Talented students in a highly academic subject. More recently I have gained insight in the teaching of EAL pupils. This unique combination of experience underpins my reasons for applying to be the Vice Chair of the Governing Body at CPA.

I would like to demonstrate my continued strong commitment to improving educational outcomes for the children attending our school. I feel passionately that the students of Caldmore Primary have the best possible education to secure their futures and to continue to promote the highest of standards within the Academy. I recognize the challenges students face in and out of school, particularly in our local community, and believe I can continue to make a real difference to the pupils of Caldmore Primary Academy and support the Principal in delivering her vision to be the leader of an Outstanding Academy Chain.

Since joining the Academy Governing Body I have attended meetings, visited to evaluate the Wider Curriculum and more recently SEN provision. This included helping set targets for the continued improvement of the Academy with the aim of becoming Outstanding at our next Ofsted inspection. I am happy to give freely of my time to visit the Academy believing it is important for Governors to be seen to be involved in Academy life by staff and students alike. More recently, during the CEO’s acclimatization visit, I was asked to meet Ms Clinton on behalf of the Governing Body. I was able to share with her the excellent work being done at CPA with reference to the Wider Curriculum in developing the students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in a wide range of subjects and the high quality of work being produced by our learners. I was also able to expound the passion and commitment of the staff and their evident care for all students.

I want to continue contributing to the Governing Body of Caldmore Primary Academy as Vice-Chair as it has reignited my passion for, and belief in the importance of the highest quality of education for all students in our local community. I also believe that I am an excellent advocate for the strengths evidenced at Caldmore and have the necessary experience to support the Principal’s endeavours in the pursuit of excellence.
